Djed Spence hits out at Tottenham teammates after ‘astonishing’ reveal
Tottenham defender Djed Spence has criticised his teammates after their performance in the 4-0 League Cup semi-final defeat to Liverpool on Thursday (February 6).
The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool overturned Tottenham’s 1-0 aggregate lead from the first leg with a comprehensive Anfield win in which Spurs were utterly outplayed.
Spurs recorded an astonishingly, unambitious season-low of just 0.18 (against Liverpool’s 3.82), with just five shots in total.
Gody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 34th minute before star man Mohamed Salah doubled Liverpool’s lead from the penalty spot just after half-time.
Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky took out Darwin Nunez, giving the Egyptian the perfect opportunity to score, an incident that left many Spurs fans raging.
Dominik Szoboszlai capped off a fine performance with a goal to make it 3-0 in the 75th minute before captain Virgil van Dijk rounded off the scoring five minutes later.
Djed Spence vents his frustrations as Tottenham continue to struggle
The right-back has been given plenty of chances this season due to Tottenham’s lengthy injury list, starting 10 of his 16 games across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing two assists in his 1027 minutes of action.
Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin is the latest to be added to that injury list, with several Spurs players, including James Maddison and Dominic Solanke, sending their teammate a message of support.
Spence took to Instagram to vent his frustrations over the defeat to Liverpool, saying: “Needed more fight, much more. On to Sunday.”

Postecoglu’s attention will return to their stuttering Premier League campaign as they host fellow strugglers Man United on February 16th.
