Djed Spence says ‘I told you so’ as his ex-teammate delivers PSG masterclass vs Inter
Djed Spence’s previous loan spell away from Tottenham Hotspur saw him dovetail with a player who Champions League winner.
Tottenham learned who they’ll play in this August’s UEFA Super Cup after PSG produced a performance for the ages to beat Inter 5-0 in the Champions League final, the competition’s biggest margin of victory.
Luis Enrique‘s side were 2-0 up within 20 minutes after goals from Achraf Hakimi and Desire Doue, who added his second just after the hour mark before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu’s late strikes.
PSG‘s five-goal victory eclipsed the records set by Bayern Munich and AC Milan in previous European Cup/Champions League deciders, and makes them clear favourites for their Super Cup clash with Spurs.

Desire Doue proves Spence right with PSG display
Tottenham’s win over Manchester United in the Europa League Final on 21 May came in less comfortable fashion than PSG’s thrashing of Inter, and Brennan Johnson’s winner was a scrappy goal to say the least.
By comparison, PSG’s right-winger Doue was electric and picked up the man of the match award after his display in the final, as his two goals spearheaded a dominant victory and left Inter with no answers.
Spence’s loan spell at Rennes in 2022–23 saw him make just 10 appearances in all competitions, but that forgettable season coincided with Doue’s first-team breakthrough as Spence’s partner on the right flank.
Doue’s performance was such that Spence posted on X mid-game (31 May) with a message to people who had previously doubted the Frenchman’s ability, in which he said: “I tried to tell them, they laughed…”

Tottenham in race against time to avoid PSG humiliation
June marks the beginning of a split transfer window which Tottenham can’t afford to get wrong if they’re to avoid the disastrous Premier League campaign which has left Ange Postecoglou clinging to his job.
Fresh off the back of a record-breaking Champions League final win, PSG likely can’t wait to face a Spurs side who finished 17th in the table and won the Europa League against a similarly poor Man United team.
Tottenham plan to upgrade at centre-forward as one of three new headline signings this summer, and Spence will be quick to let any new faces in defence know just how difficult the task will be if they’re to contain Doue and his team-mates on 13 August.
