David Bates: This is what is key for Rangers to earn win against Celtic
Rangers centre-back David Bates has revealed what he believes is the key to victory in Sunday’s Old Firm derby at Ibrox.
The 21-year-old claims that as long as the Light Blues do the basics well, they will have a chance of defeating Celtic and closing the gap at the top of the league table to three.
Bates made the claim on the club’s official Twitter page.
“Sunday we just need to to make sure we do the basics well at the back” the defender said.

Bates has been a stand-out for the Gers in recent weeks, as the club have been in their best run of form in a long time.
Bates’ form has been all the more impressive when you consider that he hasn’t had the same centre-back partner alongside him, at times he has played with Bruno Alves, Russell Martin and Fabio Cardoso.

It is hard to argue with anything Bates has said, if the Light Blues want to pick up the three points which will blow the title race wide open they will need to make sure they don’t do anything stupid in defence. The big test Bates will face is likely to come from Hoops striker Moussa Dembele, who seems to have returned to form recently, with three goals in his last two games. If Bates is able to keep Dembele quiet – like he did in the goalless Old Firm derby in December – then the chances of the Gers pulling off their first Old Firm league victory in six years will be greatly increased.
