‘Do you know what…’ – Matt Le Tissier wowed by Hearts upsetting Celtic and Rangers, hails one man

Tony Bloom is the brains behind Hearts’ excellent start to the 2025-26 campaign after he invested in and became a board member at the club during the summer transfer window.

That is the verdict of Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier, who has exclusively told Football Insider that he thought Brighton owner Bloom would improve Hearts but not to the point of being title challengers already.

Bloom has been owner and chairman of Brighton since 2009 and has overseen their rise from League One obscurity to becoming Premier League stalwarts and European football hopefuls in the 16 years that have followed.

He bought shares in Hearts in June and implemented his analytical and data-led approach into the club’s transfer strategy, with immediate results already being garnered on the pitch.

Derek McInnes’ side are top of the Scottish Premiership after winning eight of their first nine games, with a 3-1 victory against Celtic last time out moving them eight points clear of second-place.

Bloom has made a real difference at Hearts

Bloom claimed that Hearts can win the title in the next 10 years upon his arrival at the club, and that certainly looks like a realistic aim considering their stellar start to the 2025-26 campaign.

Le Tissier backed Bloom to deliver glory to his new club when speaking to Football Insider after his arrival, while also admitting that Hearts had to get their summer recruitment right to compete with Celtic and Rangers.

The capital club are yet to lose a league game this season, and a number of their new signings like Oisin McEntee, Alexandros Kiziridis, Claudio Braga and Stuart Findlay have been key to their success up to now.

Celtic and Rangers‘ own struggles have certainly aided their push and confidence that an upset can be caused this season, but Hearts are ultimately at the summit of the Premiership because of their own brilliant performances.

Le Tissier praises Bloom for Hearts success but admits shock at quick results

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Southampton striker Le Tissier gave a glowing review of Bloom’s credentials in the game, but did acknowledge that he had not expected the club to be so good, so soon after his arrival.

He said: “I think it’s interesting, because Tony Bloom got involved in the summer, and when I saw that I thought, ‘do you know what, he’s a canny guy, it wouldn’t surprise me if this football club turned around.’

It’s surprised me that it has happened this quickly, but I thought when Tony got involved there that he had the ability and the knowledge of football that he could pass on and actually make a real difference at Hearts. It’s been a fantastic start.”
