‘Not an upgrade’, ‘Last chance saloon’ – Newcastle fans fume at first reported January signing
Newcastle United fans were not happy with the news that Chelsea’s Kenedy is reportedly joining them in January.
The Daily Mail claimed that a fee between the two clubs has been agreed, which will see Kenedy move to the Magpies on loan.
It is believed that Rafa Benitez tried to sign the defender in the summer but was unable to come to an agreement with Chelsea.
While Benitez may be happy at finally acquiring one of his transfer targets, fans were left distinctly unimpressed and fearing another disappointing transfer window.
One fan suggested his time at Newcastle United was his last chance with another pointing out that he hasn’t been playing regular first-team football.
Kenedy has made four appearances for Chelsea this season, although none of them have been in the Premier League. He did impress on Wednesday night though, when he played 90 minutes in the quarter-final of the league cup, with Chelsea beating Bournemouth 2-1.
The defender who is comfortable playing at left-back or left wing, has only made a total of 25 appearances for the Blues.

Kenedy has been at Chelsea since 2015 after joining from Brazilian club Fluminense, and had a brief loan spell at Watford last season where he made one appearance.
