‘Dominated Pogba’ - BBC pundit hails Tottenham midfielder after Manchester United win
BBC pundit Danny Murphy has raved about Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele after his performance in the win against Manchester United on Wednesday night.
Spurs recorded a convincing 2-0 home victory in the Premier League against Jose Mourinho’s side and are now just two points outside of the top four.
Christian Eriksen netted after just 11 seconds for the hosts at Wembley, before Phil Jones’ own goal doubled their advantage in the first-half and put them in an unasiable position.
Murphy singled out Dembele for special praise after his display in the midweek clash and believes he got the better of his dual with midfield counterpart Paul Pogba.
The combative 30-year-old helped bossed the game in the centre of the park and £89million man Pogba was substituted off early in the second-half by manager Mourinho.
“Dembele was fantastic, he dominated Pogba,” Murphy said during BBC One television programme Match of the Day.
“Pogba has been great for United and I prefer him in a more attacking role, in terms of defensive disincline it’s not really in his nature and too easy for someone with Dembele’s ability to play around him and dominate him.”
Dembele is regarded as one of the outstanding players in the Spurs team and he was pivotal against United, while influential playmaker Eriksen proved the ultimate difference in the final third.
Spurs are currently in a crucial set of games as they prepare to face Liverpool away on Sunday, while games against Newport County, Arsenal and Juventus are also just around the corner for Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
In the latest Tottenham news, the club’s supporters reacted to the confirmed signing of Lucas Moura.
