Dominic Calvert-Lewin asks ‘Why me?’ after major new Everton blow at Brighton
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin suffered a blow against Brighton and will have been left thinking “why me?” according to Terry Gibson.
The English striker had scored only his third goal of the season against Tottenham in their previous game, and looked set to be a key player under David Moyes in his second spell in charge of the Toffees.
Despite being linked with a move to Newcastle, the former Sheffield United striker had started in both of Moyes’ games in charge since re-joining the club.
However, after only 13 minutes of the game against Brighton (25 January), the England international was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury as he fell to the ground without facing contact from a Brighton player, following long-term injury issues in recent seasons.
Speaking on the World Feed, former Man United and Wimbledon player Gibson said (3.14pm): “You can see him holding the back of his leg, it’s clearly a hamstring issue, and he must be sitting there thinking not again. Why me? Again and again. He’s key to Everton.”
Everton must sign a striker in January transfer window after Calvert-Lewin injury
Football Insider Verdict
The injury to Calvert-Lewin will surely have been enough to convince Moyes that his club must sign a striker in January.
Calvert-Lewin is clearly a talented player, as shown by his 11 international caps, but his injury record shows that Moyes cannot rely on him to be the main man for the Toffees.
Further exacerbating the situation is the injury to Armando Broja, who looks set for an extended spell on the side-lines.
Chelsea, Broja’s parent club, have shown no desires to recall the Albanian striker, meaning that Everton are now limited on the type of deal they can do as another loan from a Premier League club is off the table.

Everton have avoided a points deduction this season after passing the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), but they are still limited financially on what transfers they can make.
The worrying issue is that the Toffees have gaps that need filling all over the pitch, and losing a key player like Calvert-Lewin is the last thing Moyes needs as he looks to save the club from relegation this season.
In other news, Everton have been backed to sign a “mini-Messi” in January.
