‘Dominic Calvert-Lewin expected to sign £100,000-a-week Everton deal’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin can leave Everton on a free transfer in just weeks with his contract at the club set to expire.

The striker, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, has been on Merseyside since joining from Sheffield United in 2016.

Football Insider revealed last week (10 April) that Newcastle are “very keen” on signing Calvert-Lewin, 28, on a free transfer.

The Magpies want him as a potential replacement for Callum Wilson – who will depart St James’ Park at the end of his contract this summer.

But Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has insisted he expects a twist before the end of June.

Everton told to make ‘bonus-related’ Calvert-Lewin offer

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Everton should offer Calvert-Lewin a £100,000-a-week deal with further bonuses for appearances and goals.

The former England striker had remained fit for the first half of the 2024-25 campaign but suffered an injury in late January.

Wyness insisted Everton could also insert a low release clause in Calvert-Lewin’s deal, allowing the striker to leave the club in future for a reasonable fee.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “He’s had injury problems, it’s been tough for him.

“But he’s performed very well for the club and I happen to be a Dominic Calvert-Lewin fan.

“If there’s going to be a contract that works for the club and both parties, it will have to be a bonus-related deal.

“It could be something like £100,000-a-week with bonuses on top for appearances and goals.

“There will definitely be interest from other clubs. He’s still a talent.

“He will fit Moyes’ style of play. But if someone like a Liam Delap was to come to Everton, it may be more difficult to retain Calvert-Lewin.

“His hand isn’t as strong as it was before, but he is still an asset to Everton when fit – and should get a bonus-related offer from the club.

“I’m sure they’ll want a low break clause, so there’s a chance to get out for bigger money in the future.

“I think that’s where we’ll end up.”

Major update on Everton landing Delap

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Thursday (10 April) Everton will struggle to compete with Man United and Chelsea for the signature of Ipswich Town star Liam Delap.

Delap has attracted interest across the Premier League after his debut season in the top flight with Kieran McKenna’s side.

He has hit 12 goals and notched two assists in 33 appearances across all competitions this term.
