Dominic Solanke: Expert ‘concerned’ by what he’s seen at Tottenham

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he is still “concerned” about Tottenham’s striking options despite the arrival of Dominic Solanke.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the £65million man is not an adequate Harry Kane replacement.

Solanke joined Tottenham on 10 August and made his competitive debut against Leicester on Monday (19 August) in a 1-1 away draw.

The one-cap England international missed one big chance and failed to score with two other shots on target as Ange Postecoglou’s side started the new season with a frustrating stalemate.

He has signed a six-year deal with Spurs.

Goals still a ‘concern’ at Tottenham despite Solanke arrival, says Wyness

Wyness praised Daniel Levy for his work over the summer but has claimed striker could remain a problem position for Postecoglou.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Daniel Levy has always been very good at selling second-level players like Emerson Royal or Oliver Skipp at a good market cost.

“He’s done it very well.

“Spurs have always had a long line of these players, often in midfield.

“But they’ve not quite found the replacement for Harry Kane yet, for me.

“We’ll see what Solanke does. He didn’t quite find the spark against Leicester.

“Striker is the area I’d be most concerned about for this season at Tottenham.

“But business-wise, they’ve had a good window.”
