Football Insider verdict:
Steve Bruce has been very active in the January window and the signing of Hourihane could turn out to be the best deal of the month. The 25-year-old has been one of the standout players in the Championship this season and will certainly improve Villa’s starting line-up. He has proven to be an all round midfielder, showing both defensive and attacking attributes at Barnsley. Bruce’s side must overhaul a nine-point gap if they are to mount a late bid for the play-offs and Hourihane can certainly help their pursuit. He has the potential to form a strong looking midfielder alongside new signing Lansbury and Mile Jedinak.
