Done deal: Midfielder signs after Aston Villa settle terms

By Harvey Byrne

Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout has joined Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne on loan, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The French club confirmed on their official Twitter account that they had completed a deal for the 23-year-old only 12 months after his move to the Midlands outfit.

Veretout joined Villa last summer, signing for £8million in a five-year deal from Ligue 1 side Nantes.

However, after a disappointing campaign which saw Villa relegated to the Championship, the midfielder has moved back to France.

The former France Under-21 international appeared in 29 encounters in all competitions for Aston Villa last campaign.

The midfielder won promotion from the French second-tier during the 2012-13 season with Nantes.

However, Roberto Di Matteo has looked to reshape the squad which suffered relegation last season and Veretout has become the eleventh senior player to leave Villa Park, after the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Ciaran Clark and Scott Sinclair departed the squad.

The Italian boss has also brought in six new players this summer, which includes midfielders Mile Jedinak and Aaron Tshibola.

The recently relegated side have started their Championship campaign in mixed form with one win, two draws and a loss coming in their opening four league matches.
