Thomson, who spent some of his youth career down the road from Celtic at bitter rivals Rangers, was thrown straight into first-team duties on Saturday to make his second debut for Queen of the South in their 3-2 defeat to Falkirk.
The Scotland Under-21 international was sent out on loan to Livingstone in the summer but was recalled by the Scottish Premiership holders after he made just three first-team appearances for them.
Now the attacking midfielder is back at Palmerston Park, where he made 18 appearances last season and scored four goals.
Football Insider verdict
Thomson is a very highly-rated youngster at Parkhead so it makes sense for Celtic’s academy chiefs to send him out on loan for the second half of the season. There is now winter break in the Championship and Queen of the South will continue to play right through the times were the Bhoys first-team will be resting up in Dubai. Dumbarton, Livingstone and Inverness fixtures are coming up for Thomson and his team-mates at Palmerston, so his work will certainly but cut out over January as his side aim to push themselves closer to the top end of the standings. When he returns to Glasgow in the future, it doesn’t look as though he’d be in the first-team, so this loan deal is a clever piece of business.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops have tabled a pre-January bid for this stylish top-flight defender.
