Done deal: Leeds agree last-gasp signing of colossus

By Harry Sykes

Pierre-Michel Lasogga has signed for Leeds United on a season-long loan from Hamburg, it has been confirmed.

Leeds announced on their official website and Twitter account that they had completed the deadline day capture of the strapping German striker, 25.

Lasogga, who stands at 6ft 2in, will wear the number nine shirt at Elland Road this season.

He becomes the 16th summer signing at Leeds in a remarkable overhaul of the squad that finished seventh under Garry Monk last season.

They wrapped up their business on deadline day with the permanent signing of forward Pawel Cibicki on a four-year contract and the loan capture of Lasogga.

Leeds’ other headline signings included playmaker Samuel Saiz, winger Ezgjan Alioski and versatile former Newcastle player Vurnon Anita.

Football Insider verdict:

It has been a dizzying overhaul from Leeds this summer, with the 16 new signings remarkably including four orthodox forwards. But, the club’s promotion hopes will ultimately depend upon whether they can adequately replace the goals of last season’s Championship top score Chris Wood. Lasogga has been handed the number nine shirt, which suggests he will be handed the spearhead role and the chance to be the main man. If he is as good as his record suggests, Leeds should have a genuine sniff at challenging for a long-awaited return to the Premier League.
