O’Kane was in the final year of the contract he agreed when he first signed for Leeds last summer when he arrived from Bournemouth.
He is the latest first-team ace to extend his stay at Elland Road after Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper penned fresh terms in the last week as well as youngster Tyler Denton.
Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning that Leeds were in contract talks with a number of players at the moment, and since then both Cooper and O’Kane have been confirmed by the club to have shook hands on new deals.

Republic of Ireland international O’Kane was in and out of Garry Monk’s squad last season as he struggled with injury and form, however Thomas Christiansen has already showed that the midfielder is well within his first-team plans for the current campaign as he featured in all 90 minutes of the 3-2 win at Bolton on Sunday.
Football Insider Verdict
Leeds have had too many players come and go in recent years because they weren’t on long enough contracts. The fact that O’Kane has joined Cooper and Phillips in committing his future to the Whites has to be something that has come about because of Andrea Radrizzani. Ever since the Italian businessman gained full control of the Yorkshire club, things seem to have got better and better. Elland Road has been bought back, players have signed new contracts and new additions have been made. Radrizzani is doing an impeccable job at Leeds and he deserves a lot of credit for the feel-good atmosphere around the club at the moment.
