Done deal: Arsenal sign off on another striker transfer

By Danny Wright

Arsenal have confirmed that Wolfsburg have signed young striker Kaylen Hinds.

The Gunners announced on their official club website on Sunday that the 19-year-old has been snapped up by the Bundesliga club on a permanent deal.

Hinds rose through the ranks at the academy of the north London club, but failed to make a senior first-team appearance under Arsene Wenger and spent the second half of last season out on loan with Stevenage in League Two.

He made 12 appearances for the Hertfordshire club, but failed to find the net in what turned out to be a rather disappointing temporary spell.

The young striker’s international career has also appeared to have stalled, after featuring regularly for the England Under-16 and Under-17 sides, he played just once for the Under-18s and hasn’t progressed from there.

Hinds’ move isn’t the only striker transfer that Arsenal have signed off on this week, as they announced the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in what is widely reported to be a club record deal worth £46.5million.

Football Insider Verdict

It’s a very strange move for a young English player to make. Not many youngsters move to Europe in the early parts of their careers, but Hinds appears to be failing to make any progress in his game and a change of scenery could do him wonders. He’ll be joining a very reputable Bundesliga side in Wolfsburg, and the German’s certainly know what they’re doing when it comes to developing youngsters. It’s a good deal for all parties concerned really, but Hinds doesn’t appear to have what it takes to play at top level football in the future. He may return to England in the future and play for a League One of Championship club if he improves.
