Donnarumma to Man City: ‘Doing everything they can to agree deal’

Man City hold an interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma amid speculation surrounding Ederson’s future.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have said about the 26-year-old’s long-term future with the Champions League winners.

Donnarumma has just one year remaining on his contract, sparking interest from a number of top clubs, but PSG are “doing everything they can” to tie him down.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last month that Man City are considering signing Donnarumma as a replacement for Ederson.

Meanwhile, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that City could agree a “huge” deal for Donnarumma as they have the finances to get it done.

However, there is a growing belief that the Italy international is happy in Paris and keen to build on this season’s success having won the treble under Luis Enrique.

Man City eye Gianluigi Donnarumma after Ederson latest

Man City have been attempting to land a new shot-stopper amid speculation that Ederson could be set for a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Football Insider revealed in April that Ederson is likely to quit Man City this summer and move to the Middle East as a result of their long-term interest.

Now, O’Rourke has explained that while Donnarumma’s potential availability has put City on alert, he is more likely to remain at PSG at this stage.

If he did become available, Man City would be one of several clubs who will be interested in Donnarumma,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s entering the final year of his contract at the French club and there has been no new deal agreed.

“PSG are doing everything they possible can to convince Donnarumma to extend his future at the club.

“The player is happy at PSG and his priority is to extend his contract, but if something was to happen in those contract talks, a number of clubs will be looking at him.

“Man City have been linked with a number of goalkeepers.

“Ederson turns 32 before the start of the season and there’s been talk of a move to the Saudi Pro League.

“Stefan Ortega, again, might be wanting to move on in search of regular first-team football.

“Right now, it looks like a hard deal to lure Donnarumma away from PSG.

“They’ve just won the treble, the Champions League, and they’re doing everything they can to keep hold of him.

“So City and everybody else interested in the Italy international will have to miss out.”

Jack Grealish update emerges at the Etihad

Additions to Pep Guardiola’s squad are not the only activity set to take place at the Etihad this summer, with plenty of outgoing transfers on the cards.

Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Jack Grealish is set to leave Man City amid interest from the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle, Everton and Aston Villa.

However, the winger’s £350,000 wage demands are set to make a permanent move difficult unless City are willing to take a “massive hit” on their investment.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider that City will be forced to accept loan offers for Grealish as a result of his lofty pay packet.
