‘Donnarumma’s agent has leaked Man United rumours – deal hinges on one thing’

Gianluigi Donnarumma has been linked with Manchester United this summer, and his move to Old Trafford hinges on one thing.

The Red Devils have been exploring their goalkeeping options in recent months after Andre Onana’s performances last season failed to reach the required standard.

Back in June, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Man United were pushing to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, but a deal for the Argentine now looks unlikely.

There is now talk that Ruben Amorim’s side are in for Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper Donnarumma, who recently won the Champions League with the French side.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Italian’s agent has been planting the rumours about his potential move to United.

‘Donnarumma transfer hinges on Onana’

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the completion of Donnarumma’s transfer to Man United hinges on whether the Red Devils can offload current keeper Onana.

The Manchester club would likely have to take a loss on the Cameroon international if they were to sell him this summer.

Wyness added that he is doubtful the Donnarumma deal will get done, and that it is likely just agent talk.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The media reports say he’s on about £220,000 a week, which is a huge amount for a keeper.

“I know Donnarumma is a legend in goalkeeping circles, but still, it’s PSG-type level wages. Then again, Man United claim to be in that same category of spending.

“I think it will hinge on Onana. A lot of rumours are saying he’s going to stay, saying they’ve talked to him and want him to stay. They can’t really have both at the club.

“It may be more Donnarumma’s agent floating the story rather than it seriously happening. I would say that this one’s in a very doubtful pile of deals to be done. I think it’s more media placements than actual stories because, at that price for Donnarumma, it’d be hard for any club to take him on.”

‘Man United to win Sesko race’

Meanwhile, Man United are reportedly confident of beating Newcastle United to the signing of RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko.

That is according to their former chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 22-year-old will have the final say about his eventual destination.

This comes after the Red Devils made a bid totalling £73.8million for the Slovenia international as they believe he favours a move to Old Trafford.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 3 August that Sesko wants to join Man United despite the rival interest from Newcastle, as both clubs are pushing to agree terms.
