Donny van de Beek: Pundit ‘amazed’ by difference he’s spotted at Everton

Kevin Phillips is “amazed” by the improvement in Donny van de Beek at Everton.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner said Frank Lampard’s belief and support is having a major impact on the 24-year-old.

Van de Beek produced a man of the match display on Saturday as the Toffees beat Leeds United 3-0 at Goodison Park.

In the win, the centre-midfielder boasted 90 per cent pass accuracy, 75 per cent aerial duel success, 10 ball recoveries and four tackles. [Statman Dave]

Van de Beek joined Everton on loan last month after struggling to establish himself at Manchester United.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if United made a mistake, Phillips said:

“He’s a good player but unfortunately, Man United have a few good players in and around that area. Managers go in and get confused regarding who is the best midfield pairing.

“At Everton, that’s less of a problem. Lampard has brought him to the club and he wants to play him. He has belief in Van de Beek. He’s showed by starting him that he believes in him.

“There’s no doubt about it, he’s a top-quality player. Sometimes players just need that free licence to go and play without pressure.

“When you work with world-class players, it’s amazing how much better they are when they’re playing with self-confidence. You get an extra 10 per cent from them.”
