Celtic fans need to reign in expectations over hot prospect ahead of home debut

COMMENT
The hype surrounding Charly Musonda’s full debut for Celtic against Kilmarnock was incredible.
The 21-year-old, who signed on a 18 month loan contract from Chelsea, was seen as the player whose skill would bamboozle the Rugby Park side, and drive the Hoops on to victory.
In the end, it didn’t happen, Musonda had some nice touches but was crowded out as the Bhoys slumped to a deserved 1-0 defeat, only their second of the league season.
Hopefully Musonda will now be given a chance to settle into the side, and supporters should not expect him to be the main player every week.
The Hoops’ injury crisis hasn’t helped Musonda, as with Tom Rogic and Patrick Roberts still out he was expected to be the new creative heartbeat of the side.
It is too early to put that much expectation on a player who is just at a new club, so what people expect should be reigned in.
This is certainly the case for the upcoming Europa League clash against Zenit, where the expectation will be that Musonda will be one of Celtic’s biggest players on the night.
Perhaps it makes more sense to put the player on the bench for that game, and bring him on as an impact substitute.
First though, what he really needs is a good, solid performance against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup to kickstart his Hoops career.
