‘Everton told to seal Douglas Luiz deal amid interest in Juventus star’
Douglas Luiz has been outlined as a strong option for Everton as David Moyes strives to bolster his midfield options.
Luiz previously excelled in the Premier League with his former club Aston Villa, helping the West Midlands club land a Champions League spot before joining Juventus last summer.
The Brazil international made 26 appearances for Igor Tudor’s men last term, before featuring in a 5-0 win over UAE outfit Al Ain in the Club World Cup last month.
Meanwhile, Everton have also eyed Aston Villa’s John McGinn, showing Moyes’ appetite to strengthen his midfield.

Everton told they need competitive players like Luiz
After returning to the Goodison Park dugout last January, Moyes steered Everton clear of relegation trouble, instead guiding the Merseyside club to a comfortable mid-table finish.
But the Toffees will hope to trouble the top-half spots at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium next season, and enjoying a strong transfer window will help the Blues do just that.
Discussing Everton’s interest in Luiz live on talkSPORT’s ‘transfer Tinder’ [18 July], Ray Parlour said: “He knows the Premier League, very competitive player in that central midfield area. That’s what Everton need.
“They need competitive players, and he’d make their team better. So for me, it’s definitely a swipe right (yes).”
Luiz can help Moyes continue progressing
Football Insider verdict
Moyes has successfully brought an end to the previously turbulent times at Everton, and the North West side can now look forward to a positive future at their new stadium.
Douglas Luiz Aston Villa stats | All competitions 2023/24 |
Appearances | 53 |
Goals | 10 |
Assists | 10 |
But after finishing 13th in the Premier League last term, the Toffees should now set their sights on finishing in the top-flight’s top half for the first time since 2021.
Luiz is a player who can help Everton do just that, as he notched an impressive return of 10 goals and 10 assists across all competitions in his final season with Aston Villa.
The 27-year-old has failed to make a goal contribution since joining Juventus, but Moyes should believe he can get Luiz to emulate the form he displayed for Villa, should he complete a move to Merseyside.
Moyes has already strengthened his ranks this summer, as Everton signed striker Thierno Barry from Villareal, while the midfielder could prove to be another strong addition.
Meanwhile, former Toffees scout Bryan King has tipped ex-Tottenham fullback Sergio Reguilon to join the Merseyside outfit in a Goodison News exclusive.
