Douglas Luiz to Man City: Update today as another medical gets underway

Man City are exploring a potential deal to re-sign Juventus star Douglas Luiz but are only interested in a loan move, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League champions are keen to add midfield reinforcements before the 3 February transfer deadline despite already having three new signings either completed or all but done.

Rodri suffered a season-ending knee injury early in the 2024-25 campaign in a blow which has contributed to a catastrophic collapse in form at Man City.

Pep Guardiola’s side and a number of other clubs in the Premier League and across Europe are monitoring Luiz’s situation at Juventus.

The 26-year-old has struggled to bed in at the Turin giants since joining from Aston Villa last summer (2024).

However, it is believed interested clubs are only willing to sanction a loan move for the Brazil international – while Juventus are keen to sell him permanently.

City see the midfielder, who started his career in Europe at the Etihad Stadium, as a potential stop-gap until the end of the season.

They have already signed Abdukodir Khusanov this month and are close to completing further deals for Victor Reis and Omar Marmoush, with the Frankfurt star undergoing a City medical on Tuesday.

Man City only willing to sanction Luiz loan deal

Luiz has made just 16 appearances for Juventus this term, starting in just three of those outings.

He is an experienced operator at Premier League level, playing 204 times for Aston Villa across all competitions before making the switch to Italy.

The ex-Vasco de Gama star did not make a senior appearance during his time at City – instead heading out on loan to sister club Girona.
