Doyle tipped to become ‘top player’ after ‘great’ Sunderland reveal – Phillips
Kevin Phillips is unsurprised to see clubs tracking Sunderland loanee Callum Doyle after an impressive start to the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Stadium of Light legend heaped praise on the 18-year-old who has “all of the attributes to be a top player”.
Doyle joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City in the summer.

According to The Telegraph (21 December), 22 scouts watched the teenage centre-half in Sunderland’s 4-0 win against Crewe in October.
As quoted by the Chronicle (10 August), Black Cats boss Lee Johnson said Doyle’s passing ability is “the best in the division.”
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Doyle’s potential, Phillips said: “Let’s not get too carried away.
“He is still a very young lad and is developing. Physically, he will get more muscular as time goes on. Even though he is big lad, he is still young.
“He has all of the attributes to be a top player though. He’s aggressive and has a great left foot. It is important we don’t get too carried away though.

“I’m not surprised scouts are looking at him though. His form doesn’t worry me because he is a young kid. Every player goes through a dip in form.
“I was impressed with him the other night though. He’ll learn from it, I’m sure. I think he’ll be one of their key player between now and the end of the season.”
In other news, Sunderland have been backed by Phillips to sign ‘another O’Nien’ in January after confirmed news.
