Dr Dan: £20m boost ‘extremely welcome’ at Sunderland
The Premier League’s rescue package to Football League clubs will be “extremely welcome” at Sunderland.
So says finance expert and new Football Insider columnist Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively about the £20million support package.
As reported by the Evening Standard on 19 November, the top-flight has committed the extra cash to help aid the EFL’s recovery from the pandemic.

The Premier League have committed to £100m worth of extra funding to clubs in League One and League Two over the next four seasons in total.
Sunderland made an overall loss of £2.6m in the last recorded financial year following the end of parachute payments and the impact of Covid.
Plumley claims that most clubs will not consider the support package significant enough, but the Black Cats will gladly accept any extra cash.
“The clubs won’t think it’s enough,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“Most think there is a big financial imbalance and that more money should filter down. It’s a nice little gesture but the clubs will always want more.
“In terms of the breakdown, I haven’t seen much. But it could be £500,000 for a League One side and £333,000 for a League Two side.

“That money will help short-term cash flow. For some, it’s a significant sum. Arguably, however, it won’t make a huge difference to the likes of Sunderland.
“But any extra cash is extremely welcome because clubs are still struggling with the effects of the pandemic and will do for years to come.“
