Dr Dan: Liverpool could land £28m windfall after ‘astonishing’ deal agreed
Liverpool will pocket £28.4million in prize money if they win the Premier League during its new overseas broadcast deal.
So says finance expert and new Football Insider columnist Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively about the United States rights package.
The Times reported on 19 November that the new deal with NBC Sports is worth a remarkable £2billion over its six-year lifespan.

That is approximately double the value of the last US TV deal and will add to the £201m Liverpool earned in broadcast cash for the last financial year.
Plumley expanded on the role on-pitch performance will play in the distribution of the extra money for the likes of Liverpool.
“The international rights used to be split equally,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“But a few years ago, the clubs agreed to swap that for a merit-based system.
“If you look at the estimates for the US deal, each place in the Premier League is worth an extra £800,000.
“If you look at that in contrast with the domestic deal, each place is worth £2m in merit payments. So it is topping that up a little bit.
“So the winners will get £28.4m. It’s a significant amount of money for any club. For the Premier League itself, it’s an astonishing deal.

“It’s a smaller percentage for a club like Liverpool’s revenue, but every little helps.
“It will also widen the financial gap between the big clubs and the rest of the league.”
