Drameh tipped to save Leeds millions in transfer market after latest development – Whelan

Noel Whelan has backed Cody Drameh to challenge for the senior right-back spot at Leeds United this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker and club ambassador suggested the Whites do not need to look at signing another full-back thanks to the 19-year-old’s emergence.

The 2020 signing made his senior debut for Leeds in the League Cup defeat to Arsenal in midweek.

Drameh joined Leeds from Fulham and has been a mainstay for the under-23s.

He has also been involved in four Premier League matchday squads this term.

Whelan admitted he was thoroughly impressed by what he saw from the promising defender.

He suggested Leeds would not need to look to sign a new right-back any time soon.

“A really, really solid performance from the young man,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“Another one that’s highly rated at the football club. You can see he’s got a natural ability in that right full-back position.

“Very good on the ball, he got better and better and more involved in the game the longer it went on. Another young player that is putting up stiff competition for the more senior players.

“That’s Ayling and you can say Shackleton as well because he’s been around the first team for four seasons.

“Drameh is somebody that you look at and you can rely on. He’s going to pose some questions to the manager when it comes to that right-back position.

“We do know that we’ve got strength in depth in that area as well, which is always nice. Another one for the future where it’s probably another base covered that we don’t need to look to buy.”
