Danny Mills has suggested that Tottenham star Christian Eriksen would be happy to sit and wait at Tottenham to secure his “dream move” to Real Madrid next summer.
The former England international, speaking in an exclusive interview with Football Insider, claims that the Danish star has got his heart set on swapping north London for the Spanish capital, having been heavily linked with a move to Los Blancos this summer.
Eriksen remains at Spurs after the passing of the English transfer deadline but could still move to a European club before other leagues’ windows slam shut.
However, with a contract that expires at the end of this season, Mills says he can see Eriksen remaining with the Lilywhites to make sure he gets the move he wants next year.
Mills told Football Insider: “Is he prepared to stay there? That may well be the case – sit it out for a season and go on a free.
“I think he would be prepared to wait, as we’ve seen with Eden Hazard and Luka Modric in the past, if your heart is set on Real Madrid and they want you, he may well be prepared to stay for another 12 months. That would be his dream move.”
Eriksen was omitted from the Tottenham starting XI for their opening-day 3-1 win over Aston Villa yesterday as he was overlooked in favour of the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura.
The playmaker, who has 89 caps for Denmark, played 51 times across all competitions for Spurs last season, helping them to another top-four finish as well as the final of the Champions League.
He has a total of 277 games under his belt at Tottenham, with 66 goals and 88 assists.
