Dundee United vs Dundee postponement update as Met Office issue new weather warning

The Dundee derby looks set to be affected by adverse weather conditions on Saturday afternoon.

The pair of local rivals are set to go head-to-head once again at Tannadice this weekend, with Dundee United looking to secure a victory that would keep them inside the top six in the Premiership.

Celtic and Rangers also meet on Saturday, on what promises to be a hugely exciting day in the top flight of Scottish football.

Dundee FC have eased the pressure on boss Steven Pressley with two consecutive wins over the Christmas period, but the weather could be about to put paid to their efforts to extend that run to a third game.

Snow and ice to affect Dundee United vs Dundee

Dundee United qualified for European football last season, and Saturday’s game is another crucial step in their bid to achieve the same feat this time around.

The Terrors are currently enjoying a five-game unbeaten run in the league, and that has propelled them up to sixth in the table after a slow start to the campaign.

This weekend’s derby comes at a timely moment for both teams, but it could be seriously affected by the weather, as a yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office.

The warning has been issued for “frequent snow showers” from the early hours of Saturday and into Sunday, and the possibility of snow and ice could cause travel delays.

It is currently unclear whether the game itself could be put into jeopardy, but with kick-off set for 3pm, the Tanndice pitch should have plenty of time to thaw out if overnight conditions on Friday reach freezing.

However, the weather could have a big impact on the style of the game itself if snow showers persist during the 90 minutes.

Who has the better recent record in the Dundee derby?

Dundee United have already beaten Celtic in December, and they currently hold bragging rights over their neighbours after a 2-0 victory back in August.

However, while Saturday’s hosts currently hold the upper hand heading into this meeting, the pair’s recent record against each other is surprisingly even.

The last five meetings between Dundee United and Dundee FC.

Both teams have won two of their last five derby clashes, with the final game in that timeframe ending in a 2-2 draw.

It’s a fixture that normally produces goals, with only one clean sheet coming in the last six meetings between the two sides.

Fans up and down the country will be hoping that is the case again this weekend, with Sky Sports’ coverage of the clash meaning that everyone will be able to keep up with every kick of the action.
