Dundee vs Hearts postponement latest as Met Office issues yellow weather warning

Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts’ trip to face Dundee on Sunday could be under threat of postponement after a new weather warning for snow in the area was issued by the Met Office.

Hearts have mounted an unlikely challenge for the Scottish Premiership title this season under Derek McInnes, capitalising on the misfortunes of Celtic and Rangers.

They have led the way for the majority of the campaign so far, and still sit top of the table ahead of the two Glasgow giants right now, with 44 points taken from their 20 league games.

McInnes’ side are preparing to face Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday, who have won each of their last three games to pull away from the threat of relegation in recent weeks.

Steven Pressley’s men are aiming to follow up their Dundee derby win with another three points against the league leaders, but the game may not even go ahead following a new update.

The Met Office have issued a yellow warning for snow and ice in Dundee on Sunday

Storm Goretti has caused chaos in the UK over the last few days, with constant snowfall and tough weather conditions across the nation.

Several FA Cup games are under threat of postponement, and such a threat also lingers north of the border, with spells of snow set to lead to some disruption on Sunday.

The Met Office have put a yellow weather warning in place for nearly the whole of Scotland, with Dundee included, which states that snow is expected in those areas from the early hours of Sunday until 3pm.

Dundee’s clash with Hearts kicks off at 2pm, and fans are warned to be aware of icy roads and pavements around the stadium, should the match go ahead.

Which other games in the UK could be postponed this weekend?

The recent poor weather in the UK is showing no signs of letting up as the weekend commences, with Livingston‘s home clash against Kilmarnock on Saturday also potentially set to be called off as snow and ice warnings remain in place for Friday.

Over in English football, the third round of the FA Cup will get underway on Friday, as Wrexham face Nottingham Forest, MK Dons host Oxford United, and Port Vale take on Fleetwood Town.

All three of the venues in which those ties are set to take place are currently covered by a yellow weather warning from the Met Office, with some areas even upgraded to an amber warning.

Conditions are only set to worsen after numerous midweek games were called off due to Storm Goretti, and fans are warned to stay mindful of possible delays on the roads and when using public transport.
