Mikael Lustig drops excuse after Celtic shock defeat v Hearts
Mikael Lustig feels that the pitch at Tynecastle was partly to blame for the defeat that ended Celtic’s British record unbeaten run on Sunday.
The Hoops’ domestic unbeaten run ended at 69 games as Brendan Rodgers’ side went down in spectacular style to a shock 4-0 defeat to Hearts.
The Celtic players failed to deal with the pitch which was cutting up at times and Lustig believes that may have played a part in the loss, even though he accepts that Hearts were by far the better side.
As quoted by the Evening Times, the Swedish international said: “I don’t want to blame the pitch and Hearts won it fairly but the way we want to play it is easier on a better pitch.
“If the pitch was better we might have kept it better.”
Celtic’s defenders in particular failed to deal with the pitch, with the pairing of Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata unable to deal with the physical play of Kyle Lafferty and 16-year-old Harry Cochrane.
The Hoops’ lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership has been cut to two points, with Aberdeen now the closest challengers following their 4-1 victory over Hibs at Pittodrie.
The Bhoys have the chance to extend their lead to five points when they play their game in hand against Partick Thistle at Celtic Park this midweek before a top of the clash against the Dons on the 23rd of December.
