Eberechi Eze reacts to Romain Esse’s new update amid Crystal Palace exit whispers

Eberechi Eze has reacted to a new update on social media by Crystal Palace teammate Romain Esse amid rumours of his potential Selhurst Park exit this summer.

Eze was at the forefront of Palace’s success last season as they ended their long wait for silverware by winning the FA Cup against Man City in May.

The England international has grown into one of the Premier League’s biggest talents over the last few seasons at Selhurst Park, and interest in signing him has also increased as a result.

Former scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in May that Bayern Munich are considering a move for Eze after the success of Michael Olise’s move from the Eagles to the German giants.

Brown also told Football Insider on 6 July that Arsenal are weighing up whether to sign Eze and have held internal discussions about triggering his release clause, so it is clear that he is a wanted man this summer.

Romain Esse shares pre-season training update

Following on from their initial interest, former scout Brown revealed to Football Insider on Monday (7 July) that Bayern are set to accelerate their pursuit of Eze after Jamal Musiala suffered a broken leg against PSG at the Club World Cup.

The 27-year-old remains with the Eagles for now, however, but is likely not yet back in training ahead of the new season after playing for England against Andorra and Senegal in June.

A number of Palace players look to be back at their south London facility, though, and one of those is 20-year-old Romain Esse, who took to Instagram on Thursday (10 July) to post some pictures of him being put through his paces by the club’s fitness coaches.

His post was liked by teammate Eze, as well as the likes of Adam Wharton, Tyrick Mitchell, Dan Ballard, Daniel Jebbison and fellow Eagles youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who is being tracked by Rangers and Southampton, as revealed by Football Insider.

Eze should stay at Palace this summer

Football Insider verdict

Eze’s talents know no bounds, and despite him now being 27, it does feel as if he has even more to give and better seasons to come than his most recent impressive effort.

It comes as no surprise to see him linked with moves to some of the world’s biggest clubs in Bayern and Arsenal, but from a personal point of view in terms of on-field opportunities, joining either side could turn out to be a mistake this summer.

He is the main man at Palace, even alongside Jean-Phillippe Mateta’s goals and Marc Guehi’s defensive prowess, and his eccentric, street-wise style of play suits such a prominent role in Oliver Glasner’s side.

If he was to join either Bayern or Arsenal, he would simply be another cog in a system, and would face the threat of playing a large part of the season off the bench due to their respective plethora of options in attacking positions.

Eze should stay at Selhurst Park this summer solely for that reason, as he is not going to be appreciated anywhere more than he already is at Palace, and with next year’s World Cup in mind, another stellar season for the Eagles in the league and Europe would surely safely book his seat on the plane to the USA.
