Eberechi Eze: Significant update on Tottenham transfer today – sources
Tottenham are increasingly unlikely to pursue a deal to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Spurs will now prioritise moves to sign a new centre-back and central midfielder before the transfer deadline.
Eze, 26, had been high on Tottenham’s list of potential signings, but the arrival of Wilson Odobert from Burnley will allow them to turn their attention elsewhere.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, remain desperate to retain Eze’s signature beyond this summer after losing Michael Olise and amid fears that Marc Guehi could still depart.
Ange Postecoglou is now pushing to bring in a new central midfielder to bolster his squad after Oliver Skipp made a move to join Leicester City.
Tottenham unlikely to pursue Eberechi Eze deal as Ange Postecoglou priorities emerge
Since joining Crystal Palace from Queens Park Rangers in 2020, Eze’s reputation within the game has continued to rise given his starring role at Selhurst Park.
During that time, he has made 125 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 26 goals and providing 17 assists.
He scored 11 goals and laid on four assists in 27 Premier League games last time out – the second consecutive season in which he has scored at least ten goals.
Following his appearances for England as part of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad, Spurs were one of a number of clubs interested in a deal for the attacking midfielder.
Eze’s agents are already well-connected at Tottenham, with Postecoglou, Son Heung-min and James Maddison also on his books.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City were also keeping an eye on his situation, although no formal bids arrived from any club.

However, Spurs have now set their sights elsewhere and are very unlikely to make a move in the closing stages of the window.
Eze’s Crystal Palace release clause expired earlier this month, leaving the Eagles in full control of whether or not they accept any late offers.
In other news, Marc Guehi has turned down the offer of a new contract at Crystal Palace.
