Eddie Gray: This is why Leeds have a chance of making an instant return to the Premier League
By Amir Mir
Eddie Gray believes Leeds’ current form means they have “got a chance” of making an instant return to the Premier League rather than going through the grueling play-offs.
Garry Monk’s side currently occupy fourth position in the Championship table and they are eight points behind second-placed Brighton with eight games of the season remaining.
The Yorkshire club beat Brighton prior to the international break when a Chris Wood brace helped secure a valuable three points for the home side.
Club legend Gray is confident that they can secure a top six spot but still believes they have what it takes to close in on the top two.
“It’s very exciting if you look at the position we’ve put ourselves in,” Gray told LUTV, as quoted by the Huddersfield Daily. “We have an opportunity to obviously finish in the top six, which I think we will.

“But we’re still hunting down the top two – it will be difficult, but the form we’re in, the way we’ve have been playing and the resilience we’ve shown…we’ve got a chance.”
Leeds will be tested in the next few weeks with a number of big fixtures coming up for Monk and his team.
They will first travel to the Madjeski Stadium on Saturday evening to take on fifth-placed Reading before staying on the road for a tricky encounter against Brentford three days later.
Promotion hopefuls Preston North End will be the club’s next opponents at Elland Road on April 8, followed by a trip to current leaders Newcastle.
Positive results from these fixtures could see Monk’s side make a late, but timely push for a top two spot, but dropped points could see the promotion chasing pack close in on them.
