Eddie Nketiah will leave Arsenal after 'brilliant' development - pundit
Eddie Nketiah will look to leave Arsenal this summer if Mikel Arteta chooses to sign a big-name number nine this summer, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old has put himself in the “strongest position possible” thanks to his “brilliant” recent form.
Nketiah netted a crucial brace in the 2-1 win over the Whites on Sunday (8 May) to help Arsenal move four points clear of top-four rivals Tottenham ahead of this week’s derby.
The record England Under-21 goalscorer has supplanted Alexandre Lacazette in the Gunners’ pecking order, scoring four goals in four games.
Nketiah’s terms expire at the end of the season and has placed on record his desire to secure regular first-team football with his next contract.
Whelan claimed a lot of clubs will be interested this summer.

“He’s in the strongest position possible, there’s no doubt about it,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He is putting in a real shift, scoring goals for Arsenal despite his contract coming to an end this summer. No one can doubt his connection and love for the club.
“Nketiah is a natural goalscorer, it’s brilliant. He makes it look very easy at times, and that’s an ability that a lot of clubs would love to have.
“The question is – will Arteta go big and get a new number nine this summer? The answer is probably yes.
“Nketiah right now is looking to start every week. If that is the case, he shouldn’t sign a contract with Arsenal.”
As per the Daily Mail (9 May), West Ham are the latest side to register their interest in Nketiah.
Lacazette is also out of contract next month.
