‘Ederson finished at Man City after major Pep Guardiola transfer decision’

Ederson may have played his final game in Man City colours as Pep Guardiola continues to make major changes to the squad this summer.

The likes of Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and Rayan Ait-Nouri were all added ahead of the Club World Cup, but even their arrivals were not enough to take City further than the round of 16.

It was a challenging 2024/25 campaign for all involved at the Etihad Stadium, with even Pep Guardiola coming under heavy fire from Man City fans, and the fury appears to have triggered a multitude of changes.

Off the pitch, Pepijn Lijnders and James French have joined the coaching staff, bringing a whole set of new ideas to the team, with some key changes also emerging on the pitch.

Ederson has played his final game at Man City

There appears to be a passing of the torch, after a decade and several major trophies later, with Kevin De Bruyne joining Napoli, Kyle Walker departing for Burnley, and others linked with emotional exits.

Football Insider understands that Bernardo Silva is pushing to leave Man City, with Mateo Kovacic, John Stones, Kalvin Phillips, James McAtee, and now Ederson, all expected to find new clubs this summer.

According to Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu on X (19 July), the Brazilian has reached an agreement with Galatasaray, though the shot-stopper has claimed that all exit updates are “fake news”.

Although reports continue to suggest that the 31-year-old is going absolutely nowhere, with Stefan Ortega’s departure far more likely, all signs point towards the end of his eight-year-long stay in Manchester sooner rather than later.

Pep Guardiola green lights James Trafford move

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday, 22 July, that Man City would open formal talks for James Trafford should Ederson complete a move to Turkey, but a transfer appears to be much closer already.

Now, according to Fabirizio Romano via X (25 July), City have a deal in place to buy back Trafford from Burnley, with Guardiola wanting the 22-year-old, handing Newcastle United yet another blow.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein confirmed the news, adding that the Premier League giants will pay just £27million for the goalkeeper’s signature after selling the player for £14m two summers ago.

He also added that Ederson is still not going anywhere over the coming weeks, but City fans are surely preparing themselves for his departure.

Of course, Ederson has publicly announced his desire and ambition to stay with Man City and fight for his spot in the squad, but the veteran will be in no mood to sit on the bench each week and neither will Trafford.

The Englishman has proven himself as a top-tier shot-stopper during his two seasons at Turf Moor, breaking a record for the most consecutive clean sheets, while also winning a call-up to the England national team.

Supporters have already said goodbye to multiple loyal servants, and Ederson could just be the next one on the list as the manager continues to ring the changes on and off the pitch.
