Ederson reacts to Ilkay Gundogan’s message amid ‘Man City exit’ claim
Ilkay Gundogan was in good spirits online despite ongoing uncertainty over his future at Manchester City.
Man City cruised into the last 16 of the Club World Cup with an emphatic 5-2 win over Juventus on 26 June.
Rayan Ait-Nouri delivered a standout performance, while the goals came from Phil Foden, Savinho, Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland, who also hit a major milestone with his 300th career goal.
Gundogan, however, was left out of the starting line-up once again, with Tijjani Reijnders continuing to be preferred by Pep Guardiola — further fuelling speculation about the German midfielder’s future.
It’s understood an exit could be on the cards as Galatasaray remain hopeful of securing a deal for Gundogan, as City continue reshaping their squad this summer.
Football Insider previously revealed that Gundogan is among a number of senior players Man City could look to move on, as part of those changes.
Despite the rumours, the experienced midfielder appears fully focused on his football for the time being, sharing a positive message with fans following the victory.

Ilkay Gundogan breaks silence amid growing Man City exit speculation
Gundogan shared an upbeat message with Man City supporters following their 5-2 win over Juventus and the midfielder posted on Instagram with: “Brilliant victory! Let’s go lads. Last 16!”
His message quickly attracted plenty of reactions from his teammates, with Foden, Rayan Cherki and Ederson among those showing their support.
Despite making a brief appearance from the bench, Gundogan’s future at the Etihad remains uncertain, especially with Reijnders now preferred in midfield.
Former City financial advisor Stefan Borson recently told Football Insider that Gundogan could be heading for the exit after being notably left off the club’s latest captaincy list.
The German international originally left for Barcelona on a free transfer in 2023 but made a surprise return to City just 12 months later on a two-year deal.
However, his comeback hasn’t gone as planned. Many Man City fans have been critical of Gundogan’s performances, with some questioning Guardiola’s continued trust in starting him regularly.
Ederson could follow Gundogan as Man City consider major changes
Ederson’s future is also under the spotlight, despite the goalkeeper remaining active on social media.
Man City fans have called for the club to sell Ederson after it was reported he would be open to a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
With just one year left on his current contract, this summer represents the last realistic chance for City to secure a respectable fee — unless he agrees new terms.
