‘Ederson’s agent in talks as Man City exit move accelerates’

Ederson’s agent is in talks with a club managed by a former Man United star as his exit from Man City edges closer.

Ederson’s season has been blighted by injuries and mistakes, and having appeared just 22 times for the Sky Blues in the Premier League, it seems his career in Manchester is coming to a conclusion.

Whilst Stefan Ortega has been a reliable understudy, the reigning champions of England are looking at alternatives.

Porto’s Diogo Costa is a target for Man City, and although the Portuguese shot-stopper’s £63million release clause is pricey, the Sky Blues believe they can negotiate the fee down to a more reasonable £50million.

With Ederson‘s departure seemingly drawing ever closer, a report from Foot Mercato indicates the player’s agent has been in Saudi Arabia negotiating the Brazilian’s next move.

Ederson likely heading to Saudi Pro League

With the club now in a period of transition, several key players are either confirmed to be leaving City, or look incredibly likely to depart this summer.

Kevin De Bruyne is set leave Man City following the expiration of his contract this summer, whilst Bernardo Silva, Matheus Nunes, and Jack Grealish have all been linked with a move away.

As for Ederson, the report states Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad are accelerating their negotiations to secure the services of the 31-year-old.

Managed by former Man United defender Laurent Blanc, the club are home to Karim Benzema, ex-Chelsea star N’Golo Kante, and former Liverpool man Fabinho.

Ederson’s agent has been with Al-Ittihad’s sporting director Ramon Planes in recent weeks to continue discussions about a deal.

Pep Guardiola under pressure to get Man City rebuild right

Football Insider Verdict

Guardiola and his recruitment team rarely miss a beat, and when they do, the club have the resources to make up for their mistake quicker than most.

The club have been consistently ahead of the curve, not only in identifying the best players, but also the right ones for the Spaniard’s style of football.

Whilst not the most convincing shot-stopper in the world, Ederson’s four assists this season in the league, more than Phil Foden and Grealish have managed combined, highlight the way the recruitment works in tandem with the football on the pitch.

Last summer, though, something changed. No longer were City ahead of the curve as they made a returning Gundogan and Savinho their only first-team signings.

As such, the Sky Blues have paid the price, missing out on a fifth Premier League title in a row whilst also crashing out of the Champions League early in the knockout stages.

With Liverpool looking fantastic under Arne Slot, whilst Arsenal look set to invest heavily, there has never been more pressure on Guardiola to get a summer transfer window right.
