Edouard Mendy slammed by expert after ’embarrassing’ Chelsea footage emerges
Paul Robinson has slammed Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy after his “embarrassing” antics against West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 39-year-old was “playacting” prior to Maxwel Cornet’s disallowed equaliser.
As shown on Sky Sports (4 September), Cornet looked to have equalised late on for the Irons at Stamford Bridge.
However, on the advice of VAR, referee Andy Madley ruled that Jarrod Bowen had fouled Mendy in the build-up to the goal.
The call would ultimately prove decisive with Thomas Tuchel’s side eventual 2-1 winners.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match (3 September), Hammers boss David Moyes called the decision “ridiculously bad”.
When asked by Football Insider for a goalkeeper’s perspective on the incident, Robinson said: “The goalkeepers actions after it were embarrassing.
“Why was he rolling around on the floor when Bowen barely touched him?
“Mendy made an error and was playacting. He knew what he was doing, make no mistake about it.
“He made a mistake the other week against Leeds and yesterday he took a get out of jail free card. His playacting has saved him.

“From a West Ham point of view, it is a really bad decision.
“Mendy is having a really poor start to the season. His distribution is not where it was. He is a great shot-stopper but his level of performance is not what you would expect.”
