‘Embarrassing we have to cheat’ – Man United fans slaughter Bruno Fernandes as new footage emerges from 2-0 win over Wigan
Man United fans have slaughtered Bruno Fernandes for his “pathetic” dive in their victory over Wigan Athletic on Monday night (8 January).
The Red Devils booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win at the DW Stadium courtesy of a sublime first-half strike from Diogo Dalot and a penalty from Fernandes.
However, many United supporters were fuming as they believed the 29-year-old purposefully deceived referee Anthony Taylor to win their spot-kick in the 74th minute.
The midfielder was running towards goal before Liam Shaw put in a strong tackle as Fernandes was attempting to cut away from the midfielder.
The Portuguese international went down directly in front of the referee in dramatic fashion and won his side the controversial penalty.
While the Wigan man didn’t get a touch on the ball, he did not make any significant contact with Fernandes.
Fernandes convincingly dispatched the spot kick in his typical fashion to make it 2-0, but even United fans were disappointed with the nature that their captain won the penalty.
They have taken to social media in response to the “pathetic” footage that emerged from the clash and have brandished him as “embarrassing”.
