Football Insider names Chelsea’s young player of the year for 2016.
The Blues have a unique system of loaning out a large number of youngsters to give them regular football and Nathaniel Chalobah is the player who has broken into the first team this season.
Tammy Abraham is impressing at Bristol City in the Championship and Ruben Loftus-Cheek continues to show potential in the Chelsea squad, but Chalobah has caught the eye of manager Antonio Conte this season.
The 22-year-old Englishman spent the first half of 2016 on loan with Italian club Napoli and was expected to be shipped out again in the summer transfer window.
The central midfielder managed to impress Conte during the pre-season and has become an important member of the squad this campaign.
He has made eight appearances this season already, with six of them coming in the Premier League.
Chalobah is beginning to earn the trust of Conte and has featured during Chelsea’s current 11-game winning run in the league.
The midfielder does face a tough task to cement a starting position, with senior players N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas ahead of him in the pecking order.
He has certainly proved this year that he is developing as a player and the Che;sea supporters certainly like him as he has started at the club’s academy in 2005.
Chalobah has been loaned out to numerous clubs in the last few years including the likes of Watford, Nottingham Forest, Reading and Napoli.
He is now a member of the Chelsea first team and his best moment of the season so far came with a fantastic back heel assist for Victor Moses against Leicester.
