‘Emi Buendia transfer latest as Daniel Farke considers Leeds reunion’

Leeds United’s search for a number 10 could see Daniel Farke knocking on the door of Emi Buendia once again.

The Whites are targeting Premier League experience following promotion with attacking reinforcements marked as a top priority.

It comes after Football Insider revealed last month (6 May) that Leeds will not build their attack around Championship top scorer Joel Piroe next term.

As a result, a huge foray into the transfer market awaits as Daniel Farke’s side look to ensure that they don’t suffer the drop once again.

Leeds are back in the Premier League and if they’re to stay there, they need quality additions.

Farke could look to reunite with old Norwich star

Writing for The Athletic (June 12), Leeds United reporter Beren Cross indicated that Leeds were looking for a number of positions including a no.10.

Leeds could consider a move to sign Emi Buendia from Aston Villa, following his loan spell with with Bayer Leverkusen in the second half of last term.

He later added: “Farke has not discussed positions for this summer window, but did show a penchant for reunions with former players in the Championship.

“[Sam] Byram played under Farke at Norwich City, while Max Aarons got as far as the training ground before pulling the plug on a transfer and Emi Buendia was pursued over several windows.

That’s no guarantee Aarons and Buendia will be chased again, but it’s one trend we have seen from Farke up to this point.”

Leeds need additional fire power

Farke’s side will be keen to pick up where they left off in terms of goals scored as they return to life in the Premier League.

Leeds racked up 95 goals to claim the title in the EFL Championship and they’ll be hoping that such attacking potency will serve them well as they look to survive the drop.

The Whites are readying a move for Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz, sources have told Football Insider.

Meanwhile a move for a number 10 would add greater creativity to the side.

Having recently been on loan with Bayer Leverkusen from Aston Villa, Buendia is facing an uncertain future and while he might not be a top priority for Leeds, he has been a long-term target with the Whites considering a move last summer and in January.

Managed by Farke at Norwich, Buendia scored 24 goals and provided 41 assists in 121 games for the Canaries.

With his days at Villa seemingly numbered, a move to Leeds could be ideal in kickstarting his career.
