Emi Martinez responds to Pau Torres Aston Villa message amid exit talk

Emiliano Martinez has responded to an emotional message shared by Aston Villa teammate Pau Torres after Unai Emery’s men beat Tottenham on Friday.

The West Midlands side bolstered their chances of landing Champions League football by beating Spurs 2-0 on 16 May.

Ezri Konsa put Villa in the lead before Boubacar Kamara notched his first Premier League goal to ensure that Emery’s side earned a vital three points.

Fellow top-five chasers, Manchester City, are in action on Tuesday, 20 May, before the Villa Park club face Manchester United on the final day of the Premier League season five days later.

Meanwhile, taking to Instagram [18 May] the defender posted: “Last game of the season at home, always amazing to play surrounded by all of you, thank you for your support! All to play for in Manchester.”

Martinez commented: “Paellita and roast this week”, while Villa teammates Marco Asensio, Ollie Watkins, and Morgan Rogers all liked the post.

Martinez could be set for Villa exit door

Martinez has enjoyed a stellar Villa career to date, helping the West Midlands club qualify for the Champions League last season before reaching the quarter-finals of the European competition and the FA Cup semi-finals this term.

The Argentina international proved his pedigree when he helped his nation win the World Cup in 2022, as well as the Copa America in 2022.

But the 32-year-old’s time between the sticks at Villa Park may be nearing its end, as former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers chief scout exclusively informed Football Insider that the goalkeeper’s agent is pushing for a move away from the West Midlands amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

If Martinez does leave Villa, he will be fondly remembered by supporters, having joined the club in the summer of 2020, just months after they achieved the modest goal of Premier League survival.

The Argentine has gone on to help Emery’s side become a notable force in both the top-flight and on the Champions League stage.
