Emi Martinez reacts to Romero’s ‘the only way’ message amid Tottenham exit news

Cristian Romero has taken to social media with a new message to supporters as rumours swirl around the Tottenham star’s future.

The Argentine played a key role in Spurs’ 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, 10 April, with Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham likely resting on his team’s advancement in the Europa League.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was stunned into silence by Man United-linked striker Hugo Ekitike, who pounced on sloppy defending to open the scoring, before Pedro Porro scored a first-half equaliser.

While it is all to play for in the second leg in Germany, the Lilywhites were slightly disappointed not to take an advantage from their home clash, but Romero remains positive ahead of the return leg.

Taking to Instagram (10 April), Romero wrote: “All together, Spurs. It’s the only way. See you next week, Europa League,” signed off with a white heart.

His message picked up attention from his teammates, Archie Gray, Destiny Udogie and Dominic Solanke, as well as Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, who all liked the post.

Cristian Romero could be on his way out of Tottenham this summer

Football Insider verdict

Football Insider understands that Romero could push for a move away from Tottenham due to interest from Atletico Madrid, but it is likely to come at a major cost to the La Liga giants.

Considering the amount of time he spent on the sidelines this season, alongside defensive partner Micky van de Ven, some fans might not be so upset to see the 26-year-old depart North London.

However, with Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin both on the sidelines via injury, Daniel Levy will be required to break out the chequebook once again this summer.

The Spurs owner is often criticised for his on-pitch spending, but with Solanke signed from Bournemouth for £65million [BBC Sport], and a big chunk spent on Archie Gray, the argument does not always hold up.

Despite that, he will need to splash the cash once again, especially if Postecoglou is to turn around his fortunes in North London, but it remains to be see if that will actually happen.
