Emiliano Martinez to Man United ‘could happen’ with Aston Villa ready to accept offer

Manchester United could still make a move for Emiliano Martinez this summer despite Aston Villa’s “hesitance” to sell their goalkeeper.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson argued that Martinez is still among Man United‘s targets in their search for a new number one.

Martinez has already turned down a big-money move to the Saudi Pro League as uncertainty lingers over his future at Villa Park, and Unai Emery has previously stated the Argentine was not for sale this summer.

Robinson told Football Insider that Villa remain “hesitant” to deal with the Red Devils, with a proposed loan move for Martinez already rejected and Man United still keen on securing a deal for the 32-year-old.

However, Football Insider revealed last month that Aston Villa are now willing to sell Martinez if it means they can keep hold of other star players this summer, and this could open the door for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Football Insider revealed on 1 August that PSG have also entered the race to sign Martinez amid the uncertainty surrounding Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is also a target for the Red Devils this summer.

Speaking on the latest Inside Track podcast, Robinson argued that Aston Villa may be convinced to sell their number one this summer if Man United’s interest persists, with Martinez’s future still up in the air.

“Manchester United have been linked with Martinez as well, that one seems to have gone a little bit cold as well”, Robinson told Football Insider.

“Villa are hesitant, not really wanting to do a deal, but the rumours of Manchester United and goalkeepers haven’t gone away and I don’t think they will. This is very much a deal that could happen.”

Martinez the most realistic of Man United’s prospects

Amorim’s overhaul at Old Trafford this summer has finally kicked into life after a slow start, with Benjamin Sesko‘s signature secured to complete United’s new frontline with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

At the other end of the team, however, both Andre Onana nor Altay Bayindir are touted for the exit door after lacklustre displays, and it’s no surprise to see Amorim seeking a quick fix in the form of Martinez.

At 32, Martinez would provide plenty of experience of winning to an under-fire Red Devils backline, and with PSG set to drive a hard bargain for Donnarumma, the Argentine is a much more feasible option for Man United this summer.
