‘Emiliano Martinez to Man United is nailed-on – very good sources tell me…’

Emiliano Martinez appears to be set for the exit door at Aston Villa after waving goodbye to the club’s fans following their final home game of the season.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery was coy on the goalkeeper’s future post-match despite his contract being set to run until June 2029.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (19 May) that Villa could accept bids of at least £30million for Martinez – a surprisingly low figure considering his importance and stature as one of the world’s best shot-stoppers.

The 32-year-old has been linked with Man United and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed “very good sources” have told him that a move to Old Trafford is “nailed on”.

Martinez could be ‘the key signing’ for Amorim, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Martinez could be “the key signing” as Ruben Amorim leads yet another rebuild at United.

Andre Onana is currently the first-choice shot-stopper at Man United but has faced criticism for his performances in the 2024-25 campaign.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s going to be Man United, that’s what I’m hearing.

“I’m hearing it’s pretty much nailed on.

“We know the goalkeeper position has been a problem for Man United. Martinez would be the key signing they could make this summer, to be honest.

“He is an outstanding goalkeeper. He’s the sort of character that would do well at Man United.

“He’s waved goodbye. If not Man United, I think it will definitely be Saudi.

“United are in for him, that’s the tip I’ve been given from some very good sources. We’ll wait and see how it pans out.”

Aston Villa hatch plan to keep Rogers

Football Insider revealed on 9 May that Aston Villa are ready to sell other first-XI stars ahead of in-demand attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers.

The Midlands giants have struggled to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and are set to sell first-team stars in order to spend on new arrivals this summer.

Rogers has emerged as a potential target for Chelsea and Man City.
