Can: This Liverpool player is incredible in training, I've never seen anyone like him

By Will Butcher

Emre Can has heaped praise on James Milner after Liverpool’s vice captain struck his seventh successful penalty from seven against Man City on Sunday.

Milner, 31, maintained his 100 per cent record from spot kicks this season to give Liverpool the lead, but the Reds were pegged back by City who equalised through Sergio Aguero.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Germany international Can claimed Milner was “incredible” and that he had never seen a player like the former Leeds and Newcastle ace.

“I [have] never seen a player like Millie who scores penalties,” he explained. “He’s incredible in training sessions, every ball is hard in the corner, he shoots penalties very well.

“In the game, he played very well, and it wasn’t an easy game for him against Raheem [Sterling]. He’s quick and it’s very difficult to play against him. I’m very happy that he scored again.”

Wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Jordan Henderson, Milner starred as he continues to play in the unfamiliar role of left-back.

Milner remained calm and assured from the penalty spot despite it being just his second return to the Etihad after leaving City to join Liverpool in the summer of 2015.

However, his goal was not enough to see the Merseyside giants leapfrog City into third place, as Argentina international Aguero converted Kevin De Bruyne’s cross from close range.

The win leaves Liverpool in fourth place and one point behind Pep Guardiola’s side, who have game in hand over their top-four rivals.

Milner is set to remain at Melwood during the international break after being overlooked by Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate for the upcoming fixtures against Germany and Lithuania.
