Endrick: How New Balance’s breakout star has hit form away from Real Madrid as World Cup history looms

Endrick has been a record-breaker from the moment he first stepped onto the pitch for Palmeiras as a fresh-faced 16-year-old.

He became the youngest-ever debutant for the club that day, and it was soon after that, that European heavyweights Real Madrid were announcing that they had spent a fee in excess of £60million to sign him.

Before even making his debut for the Spanish side, Endrick had already featured and scored for the Brazil senior team.

His strike to beat England at Wembley in 2024 put him among names such as Pele and Ronaldo in the youngest scorers ever for Selecao.

And after a difficult start to the season with Real Madrid, Endrick has rediscovered his feet in France, with Carlo Ancelotti’s number nine shirt waiting to be claimed in North America.

New Balance’s Endrick lands in France with a bang

Football Insider exclusively revealed in November that West Ham were keen to sign Endrick, in a move that would have sent ripples around the Premier League.

The 19-year-old was keen to go on loan in January, after making just one La Liga appearance under the now-dismissed Xabi Alonso.

The call came in the form of Ligue 1 giants Lyon, and from the moment Endrick’s Tekela boots, released as part of New Balance’s pure ambition pack, hit the ground, the move felt right.

The Brazil international exploded onto the scene, netting the winner against Lille in the Coupe de France, before scoring a hat-trick of staggering precision against Metz at the end of January.

His impact was so resounding that he was handed the Ligue Player of the Month award, just weeks after stepping into the competition for the first time ever.

It was Endrick’s goal against Laval that got people talking more, with the 19-year-old putting every part of his boot into the ball as it erupted past goalkeeper Maxime Hautbois and into the roof of the net.

World Cup glory awaits for Endrick

Endrick is no fool. There is plenty of competition at the head of the Brazil attack, with Joao Pedro and Igor Thiago both scoring regularly in the Premier League.

Ancelotti will not make his decision on a gut feeling – the striker has to be ready to lead his nation forward.

But there is a feeling of destiny when it comes to Endrick, a gravitas that is hard to ignore.

The 19-year-old’s New Balances will be touching the ground in North America this summer. And the number adorning his back may just be that of Ronaldo’s past legacy.

It remains to be seen whether that weight will fit naturally on Endrick’s back, but there is little doubt that he will take on the burden.
