Eric Dier: Tottenham stars must do this or live to regret it
By Matt Farr
Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier insists the time has come for the club to start winning trophies.
The 22-year-old was part of the Tottenham squad that challenged Leicester for the Premier League title last season, only to fall away at the final hurdle
Spurs are in contention once more this season, and are currently seven points behind league leaders Chelsea – but they remain one of only three sides to defeat the Blues this season, and brought to an end their superb 13-match winning run a week ago.
With the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen performing to the best of their ability, Mauricio Pochettino has constructed a squad worthy of domestic glory, and Dier believes that if they do not turn their title dream into a reality, they could live to regret it.
He told the Mirror: “Football is about winning trophies. If you ask us later on in life and we hadn’t won a trophy with the squad we have now, the players we’ve got and the basis we have to do that – if in five years’ time [that hadn’t happened], everyone would be disappointed.

“We’ve got to keep working hard and improving as there is still a lot we can work on before we reach that level, and the whole squad is desperate to win trophies.
“Every game we play we want to win, no matter the competition or opponent, which means winning something at the end the end of it. That’s our aim no matter what team is out there.”
Tottenham’s last championship triumph was way back in 1961, well before the Premier League came to fruition in 1992.
Meanwhile, they haven’t lifted the FA Cup since 1991, and lost six semi-finals since then; but they have won the League Cup twice.
Pochettino’s side are still fighting on three fronts this season – the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup, which gives them a strong chance of lifting at least one trophy at the end of the campaign.
