‘England to make Eddie Howe offer he can’t refuse after Newcastle down Liverpool’

Newcastle United supporters will be forced to fear for Eddie Howe’s future after beating Liverpool to the Carabao Cup trophy on Sunday.

Arne Slot’s side were completely overrun at Wembley Stadium on 16 March, with Dan Burn and Alexander Isak, who is linked with a Liverpool move, proving too much for the Reds in a 2-1 win.

In just over three years at St James’ Park, the former Bournemouth figure has written himself into the history books, saving the club from relegation, securing Champions League football and ending a 70-year drought without silverware.

That is an incredible number of achievements to claim in such little time at a club, albeit one taken over by rich Saudi Arabian owners, and this will likely just be the start of a new journey for the Magpies.

However, it is a journey the club might have to go on without their current manager before long, with interest almost certainly on the rise outside St. James’ Park, especially at international level with England.

England already planning for life after Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel is set to experience his first international window in charge of the Three Lions later this month, facing Albania and Latvia in back-to-back home World Cup qualifiers.

The German is was appointed on a short-term brief to win the next World Cup, with his current contract just 18 months long, with the FA looking for a quick fix after Gareth Southgate’s decision to step down following Euro 2024.

Pep Guardiola, who could leave Man City this summer, and Graham Potter were both names suggested before Tuchel’s appointment in October, as too was Newcastle’s Howe.

While Guardiola has shown no signs of departing the Etihad, and Potter is just beginning his tenure at the London Stadium, rumours linking Howe with the England job have not been silenced at all.

If anything, the Magpies’ incredible win over Liverpool on Sunday has seen more and more England fans campaigning for the 47-year-old to succeed Tuchel.

England FA to act swiftly for Eddie Howe appointment

Howe is clearly one of the best candidates to take England to the next level, which by most fans’ estimation, is finally lifting the World Cup trophy for the first time since 1966.

England being able to appoint him at the end of Tuchel’s 18-month reign has become just a little bit harder, though, with the Magpies’ boss only just getting started at St James’ Park.

He has just proven exactly what his team are capable of at one of the biggest stadiums in world football, and if the Three Lions are to have him in charge, it will likely take an eye-watering offer to draw him away.

Representing your country is one of the most prestigious feelings, not just in sports, and having retired from football at the age of 29 due to injuries, his chance to do that was cut short.

His trophy win with the Magpies gives him a huge amount more legitimacy, and arguably makes him the outstanding English manager currently working at the top level.

The idea of finally completing that dream might not be enough to pull him away from Newcastle, though. If the FA are serious about him succeeding Tuchel, they need to make him the offer of a lifetime.
