England vs Uruguay: How to watch on TV, live stream details and kick-off time

England take on Uruguay this week in the first of two international friendlies to prepare for this summer’s World Cup in North America.

Thomas Tuchel sprung a surprise with some of the names involved in his squad to face Uruguay and Japan, as the likes of Jason Steele, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Garner were called up.

The Three Lions boss is set to use the first game against Marcelo Bielsa’s side as a chance to see those in action who are fighting for their place in this summer’s squad, with numerous key players told to rest.

England have won each of their last six games, with their last defeat coming in a friendly as Senegal won 3-1 at the City Ground last June.

They will hope to emerge victorious in this match, especially given that it could be many players’ final chance in an England shirt to prove to Tuchel that they should go to the World Cup.

What channel is England vs Uruguay on?

England have not faced off against Uruguay since the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, when a late strike from Luis Suarez gave the South Americans a 2-1 win in the second round of group matches.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men have also already qualified for the 2026 tournament after finishing fourth in a table of 10 CONMEBOL teams, and they will face Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde and Spain in Group H.

Which players could start for England on Friday?

Tuchel has remained unsurprisingly coy over which players are set to get the nod against Uruguay, but fans can be sure to expect a much-changed side that is unlikely to resemble a full-strength eleven.

Newcastle full-back duo Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall could be in line to start, with Nico O’Reilly and Ezri Konsa both resting before the Japan match.

Everton star Garner fully deserves a call-up after some fine form at club level, but it would be a surprise to see him play from the off ahead of the likes of Jude Bellingham, Adam Wharton and Kobbie Mainoo.

Marcus Rashford and Noni Madueke look likely to start on either wing, while Harry Kane’s absence could see Leeds star Calvert-Lewin make his first start for his country since June 2021.
