Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham are in a battle to sign Celtic’s outstanding teenage prospect Kristoffer Ajer, according to a report.
TeamTalk has revealed that aside from Tottenham and Dortmund, Southampton and Watford are also keen on the 19-year-old Norwegian, but the German side are in pole position to sign him up and have already made contact.
It is understood that the Hoops are set to make a huge profit on Ajer, who only cost them £500,000 two years ago.
Ajer has been a stand-out performer since becoming a first-team regular for the Hoops in December, quickly becoming the best defender at the club following a series of excellent performances.
The Norwegian was signed by the Hoops in 2016 from Start, and after spending last season on-loan at Kilmarnock he has become a favourite of the Hoops support following a series of commanding displays.
Football Insider verdict
Brendan Rodgers and the Hoops board must resist any moves for Ajer, as he should be a foundation of the next team that is built at Celtic Park. The player has plenty of time to move on to pastures new as he is still only 19-years-old, and if he wants to develop as a player he should stay in Glasgow where he is guaranteed to play every week, which won’t happen at either Dortmund or Tottenham. The player still has two years left on his contract so there is no reason for the Hoops to sell the player at this moment in time, and indeed they should be looking to keep him at the club for as long as possible.
